The Appointment of Very Reverend Fr. Moses Curly as Hegumen in the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of Melbourne

Today, Thursday the 26th of May 2011, with the blessing of His Holiness Pope Shenouda III, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, His Grace Bishop Suriel, Bishop of Melbourne and affiliated regions appointed Rev. Fr. Moses Curley a Hegumen in the Coptic Orthodox Church, Diocese of Melbourne. The appointment ceremony was conducted during the prayers of the Divine Liturgy at Archangel Michael & St. Anthony’s Church in Oakleigh. Fr Moses was a Serbian Orthodox Priest.

Egypt violence stokes fear in Coptic Christian community
As the Egyptian government moves to strengthen security around places of worship in the Australian Coptic Christian community fears are rising for friends and relatives overseas.
In particular there are concerns for the safety of women. One social worker says she fears Coptic women are now the targets of sectarian violence.
The Australian Coptic Bishop of Melbourne says he's raised the safety of his community with the Prime Minister Julia Gillard.
The Egyptian ambassador says there is a "Coptic problem" in Egypt and the Copts have legitimate concerns.
